Art Weeks exhibition in the Sovereign Centre |
| Boscombe
rocked Dorset Art Weeks in June with its own unique
version of 'community art' by putting on a sixteen
day exhibition in the local shopping centre, turning
a few heads, buggies, wheelchairs & shopping trolleys
into 3500 visitors and smiling faces in the process.
The transformation from derelict 1700 sq ft retail
unit into prime exhibition space took 50 litres of
white paint, sleepless nights & just 6 days giving
16 artists the opportunity to bare their wares at
this prestigious event. |
 |
The show was a remarkable success for established
and upcoming artists who are desperately short of
affordable exhibition & studio space in Boscombe
after last year’s bid for studios in Haviland
Road fell through. We were especially pleased for
Independent Free State Of Mind newcomers Isaac Sigley
and Neil Lambourne both of whom stepped into the
limelight after being previously unknown to us.
The multi-talented Isaac has continued to receive
offers of collaboration since the show and said
'the exhibition was an insight into the amount of
diversity of local artists living in and around
the Boscombe area and an opportune moment for all
forms of art to be exhibited under one roof... it
has accelerated my incentive to pursue a career
in my creative field and given me constructive feedback
from other artists & the public alike. This
feedback has been invaluable and has given me new
ideas and inspiration to continue with my work'.
Based on his appearance at the show Neil Lambourne
was awarded £500 by the Prince’s Trust
to kick start his career, the award not only gives
Neil a chance to promote himself as an artist but
it also highlights the importance of providing opportunities
for local talent if local artists are ever going
to reach their full potential.

of voluntary
